[comp.fonts] Chinese GB and BIG5 fonts

chu@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov (Susie Chu RCS) (05/21/91)

Since I got overwhelmingly reponses for my anwering to a CC-net question,
I thought the net might like to have the info about Chinese fonts too.
So here is:

I am the one knows Eten fonts very well. I also have ETen 16x15 MingTi,
24X24 MingTi, KaiSu, and LiSu, and 32x32,40x40 and 48x48 SongTi. All
of them have ASCII font to go with. I have 16x15 MingTi in .bdf form
that I did 3 years ago. If you can wait I can convert them into .bdf
and have them ready on CC-net by the end of June. (I am too busy now).

I have following software available, unfortunately some will not be free.
(1) celvis: I have made it compiled under MSDOS and Turbo C V2.0. I
also made it can be used under Eten (,so use Eten all input methods).
That mean I have new Makefile.tc and some modified .h and .c files.
Anybody like to have them or need help on compiling with Turbo C, mail
me. They are free of charge.

(2) gb2lj and gb2ps: To print GB encoded Chinese doc. on a HP Laser
Jet PCL printer (gb2lj) and any Postscript (gb2ps). They have unix
versions for Sun, DEC, Convex etc., MSDOS version for PC/DOS, MAC
version for Apple MAC. They support Byx's print command options such as
auto/not-auto paging etc and inside document print commands such as
\pagebreak\, \pagenumber=\ etc with additional command options such
as font and character size selection. Fonts go with them are 16x16
Song, simplied, 16x16 Fang Song, Traditional and 24x24 Song, simplied.
(Fonts are copied from the net.). They have 16x16 and 24x24 ASCII fonts
to go with too. Chinese (its bitmap) is fetched and cached in the
printer memory when the char first encountered. Reuse it after that
when is encountered again. This speeds up the print but it is required
that the printer has at least 2 Mbyte memory.
They come in a software package with a user guide and fonts, so they are
not a free software.

(3)et2lj and et2ps: To print Eten or Big5 encoded Chinese doc. on a HP
Laser Jet PCL printer (et2lj) and any PostScript (et2ps) (include
Apple Writer). They also have unix,MSDOS and MAC versions. They have
4 special features:
  (a) Print size scaleable, multi-font selections
  (b) Fully support Eten inside document print commands with additional
command line options. such select font style , x size and y size, x
spacing and y spacing, and orentation of print etc.
  (c) Insert graphics anywhere, resizeable. Currently supported graphic
formats are .pcx (Painbursh), .gif (CompuServ's), and .tiff (Scanner).
Soon will be supported ones are .fax (FAX) and .bmp (MicroSoft Window).
  (d) Chinese (its bitmap) is fetched and cached in the printer memory
when the char first encountered. Reuse it after that when encounter
again. This speed up the print but it is required the printer has at
  least 2 M.
They come in a software package with a user guide and fonts, so they are
not a free software.

Anyway, item (1) is free, please just e-mail me if you are interested,
item (2) and (3) are not, please e-mail to tell me your U.S PostOffice
mailing address, I will mail you a brochure.
