Looking for some advice or a push in the right direction. This is a request, not of behalf of the Boeing Company, but on behalf of an industry association. There is interest in the aquisition/development of a "common" font for graphical illustration applications in the industry. A recent survey of display devices and rendering mechanisms revealed a wide variety of equipment among the industry participants. A partial list of display surfaces follow: Xerox 9790 printers Imagen (Ultrascript, Impress) Postscript printers HP laserjet printers SGI Workstations CATIA workstations Autotrol workstations Prime/CV workstations Kodak 1392, 1320 Apollo workstations DECstations Sparcstations IBM PS/2 Macs HP 9000 III Comp 80 III Infoset Logo terminals etc... The association is looking for a scalable outline font of the extended ASCII character set that would be portable to a seemingly infinite number of devices. I've talked to a couple of vendors, who consider this technical challange not insurmountable. I'm looking for opinions concerning the technical feasibility of such a task and would like to know who the players are in the game. I know a few of the typeface vendors, but I'm sure I don't know all of them. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Either post your responses or email directly to me at dwc@voodoo.boeing.com. Thanks again, Dave
