[comp.fonts] Any Ikarus

[]
Soon I'm going to invest in URW's Ikarus package for the Mac
(including the digitizer). I think. Are there any Ikarus users out
there who feel there are any 'caveats' I should know, before I fork over
four digits' worth of money?

(Of course, I'll be calling URW to check that it's compatible
with my hardware, etc. I was just wondering if there's anything I
should be told about...)

I am interested in Ikarus too. Is there literature on their font format
like there is for Type-I and TrueType fonts? If not, is there a _any_
description of Ikarus in the literature?

There's a very nice book about the Ikarus system:

Peter Karow, "Digital Formats for Typefaces", URW Verlag, Hamburg, 1987. ISBN 3-926515-01-5. There is a basic overview of digital type format concepts in the beginning 100 or so pages, and great detail about Ikarus for the rest of the text. There is some comparison with other commercial formats, but since this predates the publishing of Adobe's Type 1 format, there's not a lot of meat there.
