[comp.fonts] AFM to TFM conversion

ilh@winnie-the-pooh.mit.edu (I. Lee Hetherington) (06/18/91)

I've used the program AFM2TFM to convert PostScript AFM files into TFM
files for use with TeX. Problem is that I want all the kerning
information in the AFM file intact and *no* character recoding
whatsoever. Is such a thing possible with another program?

When producing a "raw" font file (no recoding) AFM2TFM doesn't output
any kerning information. When producing a "virtual" file it
rearranges some of the characters to make them conform to the TeX
coding (mostly ligatures). Upon closer examination of the AFM2TFM
code I see that when converting kerning information it ignores kerning
around the digits 0-9; this is very undesirable for me. I need both
character coding *and* all kerning information preserved in the
conversion. (The font I am working with is not a standard text font
and the standard conventions are not applicable.)

Thank! Any help is greatly appreciated!
