STEFFEN@BIONET-20.ARPA (03/26/88)
From: DAVID L. STEFFEN <STEFFEN@BIONET-20.ARPA> I have just completed an interim update to the oncogenes bboard. This included deleting some obsolete messages and updateing the list of oncogenes. This included the addition of entrys for hck, p53, akt, bcr, fap, lyn, rb, thy-1, and a gene with no name yet, detected as a recessive oncogene in human breast cancers. The new list includes, for the first time, three "recessive" oncogenes. These are genes whose absence are found to be linked to tumor development. Usually, the genetic absence of one copy of these genes is linked to a family disposition towards a particular kind of cancer. I realize that this list is much less useful than it might be for lack of a reference list. Compiling this list is my next priority for this bboard. In the next few days I will post a preliminary, incomplete list. Once I catch up with my reading, I hope to produce a third revision of this list. Again, any suggestions, comments or help are eagerly solicited. -David Steffen, Oncogenes Bboard Leader- -------
