[bionet.molbio.oncogenes] raf = mil

STEFFEN@BIONET-20.ARPA (03/29/88)

From: DAVID L. STEFFEN <STEFFEN@BIONET-20.ARPA>

The reason there were no sequence files listed under raf, is that
raf is a homologue of mil (raf was discovered in mice, mil in
chickens) and all oncogene references are listed under mil. This
raises three issues. 1) When looking for an oncogene in the postings on
this bboard, check the AKA and HOM listings for the name. 2) I got
the sense as I was researching the raf issue that raf may be a more
common usage than mil. If I decide so, I will change how it is listed
in the next revision of the tables. Comments solicited. 3) Perhaps I
should cross index the tables somewhat more extensively. Comments
solicited.
