Having found a round-about way to get MacOS applications over to A/UX (dragging the file over to a CAP/AUFS file server and then ftp-ing the resource fork over to A/UX), I'm trying to see what works. Next on my list to try is MacDrawII. Meanwhile has anyone come across an application that complained that it needed "System 4.2 or later"? What is the system compatibility of the toolbox under A/UX. I have NOT yet had my motherboard upgrade for my machine--were there ROM upgrades in that that I should have?

If you have CAP/aufs running under A/UX it should be easy to get mac applications copied over to A/UX to run under the toolbox. Use the finder to copy them over as usual, then just make a link or symbolic link from the .resource/application to application.res. [In true, I haven't done it for a while--since CAP 4.0, but it worked very slickly back then. The sad part, of course, was that there wasn't any *interesting* applications that would actually run.] Mark Wallen Cognitive Science, UC San Diego mrwallen@ucsd.eud

There may be a simpler way - StarNine has a utility package that will do the file transfer. I haven't tried them, but they look good on paper. For info, try Elizabeth McGee at uunet!starnine!mcgee. If anyone is interested, my summer student has come up with some working code that can read files from a MacOS HFS partition under A/UX: it currently emulates the simple UNIX and stdio calls, namely open, close, read, write, stat, fopen, fread, and fwrite. It works well enough to compile & run a vanilla BSD "ls" program, plus a few copy utilities; in progress is a version of the user-level NFS server posted to the net recently. Snags: we don't have enough documentation about what is actually on the disk surface (Inside Macintosh sort of assumes that you have used the toolbox to read things) and I am still not 100% happy with the way his code is structured. Lacking sufficient information we can't write files, so this is all strictly read-only. However, if anyone is interested I could put a beta version onto the net for you to play with - I would want bug reports... -- William Roberts ARPA: liam@cs.qmc.ac.uk (gw: cs.ucl.edu) Queen Mary College UUCP: liam@qmc-cs.UUCP LONDON, UK Tel: 01-975 5250

to see - will you post it here? I'm sure that others will be interested as well... Steve Lemke (lemke@apple.com - sun!apple!lemke)

It appears that my previous message got a bit messed up. Anyway, I was asking if you could post your program up here - if not, where would you post it? It seems as if others would be very interested in such a program. I myself don't have A/UX (yet?) but may someday and would be interested in this... Steve

I am very interested in which MacOS programs run uunder A/UX. Could those of you who have tested or are running commercial MacOS programs please post what they are. (e.g., MacDrawII, ImageStudio, etc). Thanks! phil...
