Larry, The S-100 book you've seen talked about on this list lately (S Libes, etc) has a pretty simple circuit to convert the vectored interrupt lines into a one-of-seven RST instruction for the S-100. The 8259 in this case is used in polled mode since most 8080/Z80 cards and support circuitry don't provide the 3 sINTA pulses the 8259 wants to see if you use it in it's vectored mode.
