[comp.unix.aux] customizing term

steve@ivucsb.UUCP (Steve Lemke) (02/05/89)

Has anyone else out there added any features to the "term" program that
comes with A/UX? There are a few things noted in the source code that
still needed to be added, and in addition to those, I've thought of a few
features that I want to add. I've already started working on it, but I
wanted to check and see if anyone else had already beat me to it before I
reprogram the wheel... I think it would be best to reply here since there
may be others interested in whatever you might have done.

So far, I've turned on "Record lines off top" as a default, and also turned
off "Auto scroll to 0 on output" (which isn't a toggle-able option when the
program is running). This makes term more like Red Ryder, where you can
scroll up, let go, and new text coming in is still recorded. However, in
RR, if you hit a key, it does return the scroll bar to the bottom, so I
added that in.

Things I'd like to add are as follows:
 - copy and paste in the edit menu (they're there, but don't do anything)
 - find in the edit menu (same as in Red Ryder - finds text in scroll buffer)
 - some sort of clock, like SuperClock (in Mac OS) that puts the time in the
upper right corner of the menu bar - I'm not sure if this is best done in
term or if it should be some sort of daemon running whether or not term
   is running.

If anyone has any other ideas or comments, speak up!
