Here's something for those of us interested in the artistic aspects of
computer graphics. I'm posting this on the micro list as well as the usual
graphics lists because I understand that there might be a few micro systems
(don't hold me to this) available to show how artists and designers have
used these smaller systems. I believe the call for art and design work may
still be open. If your interested in participating as an artist, designer,
graphics hak, attendee read on...
Los Angeles Chapter ACM/SIGGRAPH
THE ARTIST, THE DESIGNER, AND COMPUTER GRAPHICS
Pasadena, California... The Artist, The Designer, and Computer
Graphics Showcase will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 30 and
31 at the Art Center College of Design.
The two-day showcase will give creative artists and designers a
change to experience the latest in computer graphics in the elegant
setting of the country's leading design college: The Art Center.
The event is sponsored by the Los Angeles Chapter of ACM/SIGGRAPH,
(Association for Computing Machinery/Special Interest Group on
Computer Graphics), and in cooperation with the National SIGGRAPH
Organization, Los Angeles Chapter of the IEEE Computer Society, and
the Alumni Association of the Art Center of Design.
The leading edge of computer graphics technology represented at
this showcase will likely make this the most significant computer
graphics art and design event of the year. Two of the eminent
speakers will be John Whitney Sr., innovator of 'split-scan'
special effects for film and the author of "Digital Harmony"; and
Ed Emshwiller, renowned for experimental graphic effects in video
at N.Y.I.T. and currently Dean at the California Institute of the
Arts. Also represented are Robert Abel & Associates, Evans and
Sutherland, Information International Inc., and Jim Blinn of Jet
Propulsion Laboratory, instructor at Art Center, consultant to
Lucas Films Ltd. and creator of computer animation for the PBS
Cosmos series.
Intimate technical sessions will provide interactive contact and
hands-on demonstrations. The latest in contemporary computer
artwork will be on exhibit at the Art Center Atrium. One of the
highlights of the showcase will be the film and video festival.
Barrowing a TRON phrase "It will remind you of something you've
never seen before!"
