Hello, In my reply about X-Windows availability under A/UX, I had mentioned that it would be available "in" the next release. X-windows under A/UX should be available "at the time of" the next release of A/UX. Sorry for the confusion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: I works heres, buts theys don'ts knows I's cans types. :-) Whats I's says iss nots necessarilys whats mys employers says. :-( Hernan 'Jackie' Macapanpan amdahl \ Technical Communications/A/UX Hotline pyramid!sun - apple!jackie Apple Computer, Inc. I would read it as "X-Windows will be available as a separate product you pay additional money to get". Please correct me if I'm wrong. And if I'm right, supply details on how to get it and what it will cost. -- Arnold Robbins ARPA, CSNET: arnold@emory.ARPA BITNET: arnold@emory UUCP: { decvax, gatech, }!emory!arnold DOMAIN: arnold@emory.edu (soon) ``csh: just say NO!''

Uh oh, I'm gettting that funny feeling again...could this mean that X will not be bundled into A/UX, but will be yet another option one will have to shell out big bucks for? You mean its not included in the update tape for A/UX that you can't buy cause no one in California sells A/UX, but if you could buy it you couldn't update because the tape drive is not supported? Well lets see... A/UX On line support $3395 a *YEAR* A/UX updates $750 a *YEAR* so X Window System hmmmmmm $700 a YEAR? <Sarcasm ON> Boy, maybe the marketing department should start charging for MAC OS updates yeah, or better still retroactively charge for updates yeah thats the ticket! Marketing: So sir, you've owned a Mac since 1984, Finder 1.0? and you say you are using Finder 6.0? That will be $18,000 for support and another $3500 for updates please... Customer: Gee, you guys must be taking lessons from MicroSoft and IBM! Newspaper: Today Apple announced record earnings of $10 billion from the sale of support and update charges of A/UX to universities and huge corporations. John S. said "Yes, we've found that we don't have to develop any new software, we just port old O/S's and then make our money on support and services!" <Sarcasm OFF> Sort of disappointing to say the least....

In other words, it hasn't been decided yet. But, as soon as information is available, I'll post it. Hope this helps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer: I works heres, buts theys don'ts knows I's cans types. :-) Whats I's says iss nots necessarilys whats mys employers says. :-( Hernan 'Jackie' Macapanpan amdahl \ Technical Communications/A/UX Hotline pyramid!sun - apple!jackie Apple Computer, Inc. I may flame *Apple, the company*, from time to time, but I do appreciate the efforts you guys at apple put in answering our questions. David Williams

I am one lonely A/UX system in a sea of SUN & Apollo workstations. We have recently switched to FRAME as our document processor. I would like to run the X-windows version of Frame on my A/UX box. I have the following questions: 1. Is anyone out there running FRAME on an A/UX system? 2. Does anyone know if X-windows comes with A/UX 1.1 (I'm planning to upgrade soon)? 3. If X-windows does not come with 1.1, where do I get it and for how much? Thanks in advance.
