[comp.unix.aux] MacsBug for A/UX 1.1

jk@Apple.COM (John Kullmann) (06/07/89)

MacsBug is now available for use under A/UX. It is the official version
6.1 MacsBug that runs on the Mac OS with a few runtime checks for an
A/UX environment. It is almost 100% functional (some things like heap
scramble don't currently work). We have been using it intensively in our
group for the last month or two. It has all the goodies-Mac symbols,
A-line trap names, breakpoints, etc. This should be a tremendous help
to developers of Mac binaries that don't work under A/UX. Now you can
find out where and why!

We developed this at the request of many developers for a native Mac
debugging tool in the A/UX environment. It seems that Mac s/w types
don't want to learn 'adb' and debug without symbols, etc. :-)

Anyway, I am willing to seed this to interested sites, providing they
agree to give us feedback about it on a regular basis. It is currently
on a single floppy disk containing all the MacsBug files and some
updates to the official 1.1 kernel and libmac.a file needed to support
MacsBug. You MUST be running the offical, released 1.1 for this to work.
I may also put it up on anonymous FTP on apple-vax if I get requests for
that. Send me e-mail if you are interested in joining the seed program.

In the future, we will have the MacsBug hooks permanently in A/UX, and
you will merely need to take your native Mac OS MacsBug files to your
A/UX system to use it.
