[net.micro] card cage/backplane query

I have used Vector's cages and agree with uiucdcs!kos. The cages are
completely adjustable and accept almost any connector you can insert
a screw into. In fact, the flexibility is sometimes annoying since
you can spend an entire day adjusting a full size cage. Vector's full
size catalog is available through Vector Electronics, 12460 Gladstone
Ave., Sylmar, CA 91342. I have found that it is better to order unusual
or nonstock items directly from the company. When I ordered through a
distributer, they frequently failed to deliver and/or had little real
information about the item.

Although the VP1 and VP2 series do not seem appropriate for your boards,
the adjustments can probably be made to fit 4x6 boards even though the
box is primarily for supporting S-100 system boards (10 x 5 inches). This
may give you some idea about the range of flexibility. The CCK series
may be more appropriate. Vector also makes a "Vector-Strut" system which
looks like an "Erector" set designed for card cages. I suggest that you
talk to a salesman at Vector.
