[comp.unix.aux] A/UX and size of disk

tomv@sequent.UUCP (Tom Van Raalte) (10/17/89)

I'm planning on getting A/UX going on my SE/30.
Does anyone know if the 80meg disk that Apple supplies
is big enough to hold A/UX and still have enough room
left for some work. I want to use the partitions on
my internal drive for MAC OS.

Thanks in advance.

Good luck. The last time I saw, the distribution leaves only a
2 meg MAC OS partition. Given that the MAC OS itself takes about
a meg, there's not much left. I have a procedure that increases
the MAC OS partition to 10 meg, but at a price: swap space is
reduced and both eschatology (auto-recovery) partitions are removed.
(My understanding is that the eschatology partitions are used to boot
a minimalist A/UX in case your Unix file system gets trashed; the
partitions provide a minimal system in which you can restore the
file system from your backups.)

If you need more than 10 meg or if you don't want to remove the
eschatology partitions nor reduce swap space, I suggest you
investigate other alternatives: use floppies or get another disk.
