I'm thinking of getting A/UX for my Mac II, but I've heard of other UNIX OS's that are available. Could someone please post the current educationally discounted price for A/UX, and whether or not it's available on floppys rather than the 80Meg Apple ($$$) HD. Also, how stable is it, and what kind of toolbox support does it provide? Can it be run under Multifinder, so that Mac OS app's can be run in the background? What type of floppy drive support does it provide? What is the minimum amount of disk space needed to actually run the OS...I take it that all the utility programs and UNIX app's constitute the bulk of the 80Meg, and that the kernel itself isn't THAT large... Finally, since it employs virtual memory, does page swapping cause noticeable performance degradation? If so, is it possible to use a DMA board, or is a special patch to OS necessary to have transparent DMA disk page swapping? What are your overall impressions/experiences of/with A/UX? I know these are a LOT of questions, but I've never seen A/UX at work and would like to know as much about it as I can before I make any decisions on buying it, or an alternative UNIX. Thanks a LOT for your help! -stevej.
