This allows me to print to an appletalk printer (i.e. laserwriter) without special hardware as previously required. Now, what I would like to do is have other unix hosts (non-Mac II's) that have Berkeley style lpr printing (and lpd) to be able to print to the Mac. Our other unix systems are Suns (but I suppose any unix system supporting lpd will do for this discussion). I want to be able to print on our Suns using lpr and have the A/UX host receive it and be able to interpret it as text or postscript and handle it accordingly. How can I do this? A/UX doesn't have lpd, but does it accept remote printing requests? Problem #2: This also brings up another problem. Suppose I want to be able to print from our Suns to the laserwriter (connected to the Mac) while the Mac is running the regular Mac OS. The internet router can route appletalk packets, so does this mean that I need some appletalk software for our Suns? Or, maybe the Suns can route the printing requests to another A/UX machine (see problem #1) and then this A/UX machine can route the printing request as a remote A/UX to appletalk printing job through the Mac running Mac OS with internet router? Does this sound right? Herb Barad [Signal & Image Processing Laboratory] [Electrical Engineering Dept. - Tulane Univ.] INTERNET: barad@bourbon.ee.tulane.edu USENET: barad@bourbon.uucp
