Today I installed X11R4 as distributed from MIT on my MacII. My previous experience is with the MIT and Apple releases of X11. X11R4 seems to have all of the additional features of the Apple X11R3 release (multiple screens, twm that can deal with it, and color support). I have not done any objective timing tests (I just rm -rf'ed /anise/X11.apple), but to my unaided eye, the MIT X11R4 server is *SIGNIFICANTLY* faster than the previous versions. I did find and fix a few bugs in the X11R4 distribution. They're pretty simple things and I can pass on the info if anyone desires it. All in all, I _strongly_ suggest that you trash all previous releases and run the sample X11R4 server. The people at Apple (they sent the code back to MIT (thanks!!)) and MIT have done a bang-up job on the latest release. One other thing -- I compiled this mess with gcc 1.35 patch-level 3 Don't waste your time with CC. -- Don't demand respect from others if you have none for yourself. -- Clay Bond (Another Clay-quote I wish *I* had said first!)
