[comp.unix.aux] NFS/YP woes

ronniek@cs.tamu.edu (Ronnie Killough) (03/08/90)

I have a Mac IIci running A/UX 1.1.1. I am trying to set the machine
up in a heavy YP/NFS environment. It seems that A/UX is very
particular about how many, and in what order, you make changes to
the inittab file before rebooting.

What happens is, I change the appropriate lines in inittab to enable
NFS server, NFS client, and YP client, modify the appropriate files
to take advantage of YP (passwd, group, etc), modify fstab to mount
exported Sun partitions, and reboot. When I try to log in, it locks
up. I can't even log in as root.

I found one night that if I incrementally add functionality, it works.
But a few days later I came in and it quit working, ala I couldn't
log in on my YP account nor as root (the login eventually times out
and I get the login prompt again).

I have built a bnet/nfs kernel, and have the proper data in HOSTNAME
and NETADDRS. Has anyone experienced this same trouble? What is the
solution? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance....mail to me and I'll summarize if there is interest.
