[comp.unix.aux] C++

MATLEVAN@EKU.BITNET (Jerry LeVan) (03/11/90)

Hi,

Has anybody out there had any experiences with C++ with A/UX. I am
interested in obtaining an inexpensive (aka *cheap*) C++ system. I
still have gcc-1.37 cc sitting on the disk after the X11R4 build.
Does the Stallman c++ "work" with A/UX? Is it "compatible" with
AT&T 2.0?

Thanks for any info...Jerry

I've managed to get G++ 1.36.1 running under A/UX, but I was having
trouble with the Integer class (unlimited precision integers) and
therefore the Rational and random number classes as well.

Other than that, we've noticed some odd situations which appear to
be bugs in 1.36.1, but I don't know for sure.

Getting G++ to run wasn't terribly easy, but at least Michael Tiemann
appears to be making an effort to support SysV-based systems now, so
I hope that it will get easier in the future.

If someone wants to try the version of G++ that I have running, send
email directly to me (davism@vtopus.cs.vt.edu) and I'll see about
putting it up for anonymous ftp.

No, g++ does not work with A/UX. The major problem that I
know of is g++'s complete and total lack of support for coff. I keep
wanting to do a port (I did the gcc port) but don't have time.

g++ is not fully C++ 2.0 compatible; so far it isn't ported to the A/UX
environment.

Oasys sells Glockenspiel C++ for A/UX, I have no experience with that
product so I don't know if the latest port is 2.0. My own experience of
C++ on A/UX is the AT&T 1.2 version that compiled and worked well under
A/UX 1.1.
