I would (and will when I have saved up my paso's) go with the Big Board II by Cal-Tex Computers (780 E. Trimble Rd., San Jose, CA 95131). It has some of the following features: 4 MHz Z80-A and peripheral chips 64K Dynamic RAM + 4K static CRT RAM + 24K E(E)PROM or static RAM single or double sided, single or double density 5.25 or 8 inch floppy disk interfaces 80X24 7x9 dot matrix video STD bus interface DMA SASI interface for winchester disks Runs CP/M (registered trademark of Digital Research) Advertised prices are 895 assembled, 696 full kit, 245 PC board with EPROM & PALS I plan on going with the kit, but I have a computer hardware/software background. If one didn't have a lot of electronics background, I think the assembled (& tested) one would be the right one to get. However, as I said before, I don't have one yet, but it sounds good to me because I am also looking for inexpensive but powerful micro- computer. There's a relatively new magazine called Micro Cornucopia (11740 N.W. West Rd, Portland Oregon 97229, (503) 645-3253) that contains lots of good information on the original Big Board, and I suspect that they will have information on the Big Board II. (I do have the magazine, and I find it to be very interesting reading!!!) George V. Wilder harpo!ihps3!ihuxj!gvw1
