I must apologise for bringing up this old subject again but I was counting on the 'authorities' here having enough funds to upgrade to A/UX 2.0 and/or Mac X. But the funds are not withcoming, and thus I have to make do with the standard distribution of X. I have ftp'ed Tape 1 of the disribution and installed the source tree. I also have installed gcc off the distribution at apple.com. However, my local news server has limited disk space and I can't retrieve the relevant articles I noted a few months back. My questions are: 1) I have read on this group a few months back that gcc is a better bet for building X due to A/UX's cc's silly problem with symbol tables. What makefiles do I need to change to make this work ? Do I need to change the makefile/Imakefiles at every level or just the one at the top of the source tree ? 2) Is it necessary to use gcc at all ? I'm not sure that I have gcc fully installed properly :) Thanx for any responses. E-mail or a posting would be great. Arthur!! ac@cs.brown.edu arthurc@brownvm.brown.edu arthurc@brownvm.bitnet PS : I installed emacs sometime ago as well. It edits okay but it fails to run any inferior processes, giving me the error message : "Process completed." Any clues as to what I did wrong ? I used the distribution off apple.com, and followed instructions :)
