[comp.unix.aux] TN3270 and A/UX 2.0

demarsee@gamera.cns.syr.edu (Darryl E. Marsee) (07/20/90)

I would like to have TN3270 running on my A/UX 2.0 system. It doesn't
matter if it's the Brown "MacOS" version, or a true Unix version, but I'd
like to get something to work.

On the Brown side, I've tried 2.3d8, 2.3d13, and 2.3d15, all of which blow
up big time with a Bus Error once launched. Anyone know what the problem is? I've seen mentioned a couple of times people who have Brown TN3270 running
under A/UX 2.0. What version?

On the Unix side, has anyone gotten TN3270 to run under A/UX 2.0? If so,
how does one go about getting and compiling it? Note here that I'm a Unix
tenderfoot, so I'm not very familiar with the makefile world of things.

Any help would be appreciated, as telneting to an intermediary host from
which I can TN3270 is getting to be a royal pain.

I was able to get 2.3D11 working OK under A/UX 2.0 by moving the executable
to my personal folder in the A/UX disk. Trying to execute it from its origina
location on my Mac O/S disk failed to work.
This was the executable downloaded from Brown U. some time ago.

Note that you can invoke the 'debug' mode of tn3270 (which writes all sorts of
descriptive information to a volume named RAM, intended to be a ramdisk for th
tne benefit of speed. It works if you have a floppy disk appropriately named
'ram' though. You can save the debug status by using the procedure in the
manual to set debug level while running on Mac/OS, then save the
config as a startup document. Move this document along with tn3270 to your
new environment to get started.
Hopefully you won't need this particular information, though.

Well, I found the problem to both Brown TN3270 bombing and HyperCard core
dumping under A/UX 2.0. The culprit was the Moire screensaver, which as
since be duly dumped, and my System Folder rebuilt.
