From: Clarke Arnold <clarke.upenn@Udel-Relay> How to get software for the HP3000: 1) Call an HP service center. 2) Ask for any number of hundreds of packages all of which are supported by HP. Similarities between an HP3000 and an 8008 1) none - next? The HP3000 has Fortran, Pascal, APL, Cobol, ... HP provides software to connect up to lazer printers. There are networks of 3000s. The one that I worked on at HP had about 100 computers on the network. The are many application programs for the 3000. (payroll data bases, accounts recieveable, ...) This maybe why there are over 10,000 HP3000s in the world. One of the best things about the 3000 is the service contract that you can get from HP. They will support everything. HP will support all hardware and software if everything is HP equipment. There is only one other company that can make this claim and it is not DEC. DEC does not have the Buss. software that HP does. Many Dec systems do not have DEC drives. As you may have guessed you touched a sore spot. I worked in HPs 3000 group for a year and found the system very usable. Please do not make statements without the facts. A new irrate info-micro list reader Clarke Arnold
