[comp.unix.aux] inetd and root

ira@iear.arts.rpi.edu (Ira Lee) (09/30/90)

Hello, i've been having a problem, perhaps someone knows what is
wrong ...

I am running slip. I had it going for a few days. Yesterday, when I
restarted the mac, inetd was having problems.
When it was run (from inittab-set to respawn), AUX said that it
was respawning too quickly. I tried running it myself and found
that it would run and then exit immediately afterwards with an
exit code of 0. I thought maybe, that there was a problem with
inetd and replaced inetd. That didn't work.

I was about to relink the kernel. But another problem came up.
I was logged in as root. (whoami-confirmed that)
but, when I ran newconfig, it did a check_root: and told me that
I needed to be root to run newconfig. Is there something seriously
wrong here? How can I fix it. I would really hate to have to reinstall
aux agian. I have a lot of files all over the place...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
