I've just finished putting A/UX 2.0 on some lab machines, and I'm having trouble getting the ImageWriter IIs set up correctly. I remember that there was some discussion about various problems with IWs a couple of months ago, but I don't remember what the final verdict was. Could someone e-mail or post a summary? (I'd guess that this will end up as a Frequently Asked Question if it isn't already.) Currently, I have the IWs connected to the modem port with /dev/iw2 remade to be that port, and lp is working just fine. Under the A/UX Mac environment, though, printing seems to get started but then have problems. By the way, I've got these machines set up with no Mac partition (booting from floppy) and set so that /mac/sys/System Folder is read-only (as are all files within it except Desktop* and .fs_*) and cleaning out Desktop* and .fs_* on each login. This way, the system *appears* to be immune to viruses. At least, I tried running an nVIR-infected program, logging out, logging back in, and checking the system and everything was clean. I hope this will allow us to support both A/UX and the Mac OS (under A/UX) without virus problems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mat Davis (davism@vtopus.cs.vt.edu) Department of Computer Science, Virginia Tech -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
