I am new to A/UX and have a question that is probably very simple. I am interested in installing A/UX 2.0 on my Mac IIfx on a third party hard drive. The third party drive is a Maxtor 200Meg internal drive (SDI LXT-200S) which I bought from Alliance peripheral systems. The question I have is other than the A/UX 2.0 software what do I need to properly format/partition the drive. The software that came with my drive does not mention support for A/UX and a call to the tech support line confirms that the partitioning software does not support A/UX. I had heard that La Cie's SilverLining supports A/UX, but a call to their toll free order number discovered that SilverLining is presently being upgraded to support A/UX 2.0 and won't be ready for a few months. I am fairly knowledgable about the Mac OS as well as using Unix however I know little about UNIX system administration; so, please don't leave out too many mundane details on how to set up A/UX ( or any pointers to where this information can be found would be equally helpful. Thanx in advance, Forrest Lumpkin NASA Ames Research Center lumpkin@prandtl.nas.nasa.gov

SilverLining _does_ currently support A/UX, although there are minor glitches. (I don't remember the details- sorry...) The only formatter I've used which does everything right is the MicroNet. Unfortunately, they only sell it with their drives. You could do the whole thing with dp but I don't recommend it. It's incredibly messy. SilverLining is probably worth it for you. BTW, I expect that Apple is going to make all this much easier with 2.0.1, though that's not much good to you now... --- Alexis Rosen Owner/Sysadmin, PANIX Public Access Unix {cmcl2,apple}!panix!alexis

Interesting. I am running 2.0, and I used SilverLining without a
hitch. I have several partitions, including two Mac partitions and 5
A/UX partitions, and have reconfigured once (that required *moving*
partitions, which SilverLining handled flawlessly, though I was white
with fear the whole time :-).
