In response to the many questions about Mach Ten: Tenon's Mach Ten is Unix for the entire Macintosh family. It is Berkeley 4.3BSD running on a Mach kernel, with NFS, TCP/IP. The Mach we used is version 2.5. The Berkeley 4.3 has some Reno enhancements: TCP and NFS from Reno. Mach Ten extends MacOS. This means that network and disk controllers and peripheral devices that are supported by MacOS will be supported under Mach Ten with no additional software. Further, the underlying file system is the MacOS file system. Mach Ten is a multiwindow, multiuser, multitasking system. Macintosh applications and Unix application run at the same time. Mach Ten does not run under MultiFinder; it replaces MultiFinder. Programs run under the control of the Mach kernel which provides preemptive scheduling of Macintosh and Unix applications. The Mach Ten Kernel System will be available in February. In the second quarter, Tenon will release the Mach Ten Development System which will have the GNU C compiler and Unix software development tools. A 4MB RAM and 40MB hard disk configuration is recommended. Since Mach Ten supports both server and client NFS, systems can be configured with remote disks, further reducing the local system disk requirements. The beta reviews referenced must refer to another product. Mach Ten is just now entering beta.
