Sender: SPAM at Mit-Mc Hi, I saw your messages on Info-Micro about the IBM hand held computer rumors. One possible source of these rumors is the fact that IBM was considering selling the Matsushita (Panasonic/Quasar) HHC. The code name for this unit was 'GO' (since the name of the IBM-PC was 'Chess'). IBM later decided that this wasn't really such a good idea, and dropped the project. They must have found out how flaky the HHC actually is. I can be fairly sure about all this because I was working for Friends-Amis at the time. We were the people who developed all the software for the HHC. If you have heard anything about another handheld unit from IBM, I would certainly be interested in any details! If Big Blue were to do such a thing, it would certainly be a revolutionary step in dinkie computers. Concerning the new daisy wheel from Apple: the unit \is/ being manufactured in the US, at the Accessory Products Division of Apple down in Southern California. It may be that they are using parts from some other manufacturer, but I have no way of knowing for sure. I understand that most of what APD is doing is building slick new peripherals for the Lisa workstation, like ink jet printers and such. Sayonara, Dave Boulton
