I have some questions that I hope the net can answer for me. My group does a lot of C coding for data analysis systems which run on various UNIX and Mach platforms. We also use Mac's for spreadsheets, graphics, wordprocessing etc. A things stand, we all have Mac Plusses on our desks and use NCSA telnet to connect to a single large compute server. To upgrade our current development environment we have been considering buying Mac IIsi's with A/UX 2.0, each with about 160M of hard disk and 5-8M of RAM. Another alternative would be for us to buy diskless low-end Sparcstations. 1) What are people's opinions about the relative performance of these two options? 2) Has anybody out there ever run A/UX on a IIsi? 3) Can anybody comment on the relative performance of AUX on a IIsi vs. a IIci? 4) Are there other important issues that we should consider? If you could please e-mail your responses to dbrockett@bbn.com, they would be very much appreciated. Thanks, Doug Brockett
