Has anybody ever successfully used "rdump" or "dump.bsd" on an A/UX 2.0 system ? I'm trying to back up my root filesystem using rdump, but it looks like rdump does not recognize Apple's A/UX filesystem types. Here's what happens: root# /etc/rdump 0bf 8k sluggo:/dev/rst8 / DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri Mar 22 19:08:23 1991 DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch DUMP: Dumping / to /dev/rst8 on host sluggo DUMP: bad sblock magic number DUMP: The ENTIRE dump is aborted. root# where "sluggo" is a Sun4 with a tape drive called "/dev/rst8". (and NO, the problem is not the root-to-root host permissions). I happen to have access to the source for rdump on our Cray Y/MP running UNICOS and I looked at the line that has the error message "bad sblock magic number" and it looks like rdump is trying to figure out the filesystem type but cannot. I have tried using "-T4.2" and "-T5.2" and "-TRUFS" and "-TEFS"... nothing works. Is the problem that rdump is just a "sloppy" port and does not know about the new Apple A/UX filesystem types ? Is there some other way I can dump/restore my A/UX system accross the network to my Sun ? Also, I noticed that the "stand-alone shell" (MacPartition) does not have the "restore" command. If I were to lose my A/UX disk (I have not), how would I even be able to restore the dump ? I noticed that "SASH" does have "dd", but SASH/dd running out of the MacOS partition could not be used to restore/read a backup from over the network, right ? So, how do I maintain my A/UX system backups over the network ? Do I have to go buy an Apple Tape drive and hang it off of my A/UX system in order to backup/restore my system ? (yuck) Is there some sort of minimal/RAM-resident A/UX load that can be done for restoring whole root-filesystems (like on Suns) ? Any help would be appreciated, "mucho"...
