Still, it is possible to compile gcc with gcc. Don't waste your time trying it with the big cc compiler -- even the "big" tables aren't big enough. Somebody needs to teach those AT&T guys about this marvelous new invention called "malloc". Now for my question: Has anyone successfully gotten GDB to work? It looks like a very nice debugger, but it requires a good deal of customization to each system, and a good deal more understanding of A/UX internals than I have. I did some work on trying to get it to compile, but gave up on it temporarily to move on to other things. -- Richard Todd rmtodd@uokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu rmtodd@chinet.chi.il.us rmtodd@servalan.uucp Motorola Skates On Intel's Head!

I was able to do the initial compile also but when I attempted the stage2 build, I got a message something like this "cc1: unknown option '-g'". I followed the instructions exactly. Has anyone ran across "Unreasonalbe include nesting" when compiling gcc. If so how can I resolve this problem ? Thank-you in advance Bruce Kilgore (bkilgore@nmsu.edu)

If so how can I resolve this problem ? Sorry people, this isn't shrink wrap stuff so expect to do some of your own problem solving. In this case, it is just a matter of using your existing tools properly. Try setting the CFLAGS to -E on a copy of the cc command that the gcc makefile was executing when this fault arose. What -E does is arrange just to run the preprocessor; this leaves handy remarks about include files in the file, so it should soon become obvious where your (infinite) include nesting is taking place. For my money your tm.h file includes itself, but I haven't yet laid hands on a copy of the gcc source with any AUX specific stuff so I don't speak from specific experience here. -- William Roberts ARPA: liam@cs.qmw.ac.uk Queen Mary & Westfield College UUCP: liam@qmw-cs.UUCP Mile End Road AppleLink: UK0087 LONDON, E1 4NS, UK Tel: 01-975 5250 (Fax: 01-980 6533)

I know this could get annoying, but I would REALLY like to be able to get the binaries for gcc that will run on AU/X 1.1. I promise that this will be the last time I ask anyone for it! Thanking you in anticipation. Craig Emery normane@cogs.sussex.ac.uk
