[comp.unix.aux] BUG in emacs from wuarchive

alexis@panix.uucp (Alexis Rosen) (06/12/91)

Before I start- John, don't apologize about this. You do so much for the
A/UX net community, that we can cut you a little slack with a program that
you didn't even port...

Anyway, the bug: It's in the s-aux.2-0.h or whatever it's called. That file
says that mail uses lockf.

Currenty I think mine is the only A/UX Mac in the world for which this is
actually true (thanks, jms!). /bin/mail as distributed with A/UX uses the
other method. So be warned, don't use the mail features unless you fix this.
Or until you get a revised /bin/mail.

BTW, Jon W{tte was right in his other article. And I totally forgot to
complain about the X11 dependancy- I fixed that and forgot it...

With all these comments on GNU Emacs from wuarchive, I thought it would be
wise to point out that there is a version on afsg.apple.com (192.1.34.2) that
does work on A/UX, and that is in much better shape than the one on wuarchive
which was originally copied from apple.com. That version was a priliminary
port done by Dave Berry who used to be an Apple engineer in the A/UX Group.

The point is 1) there is a version that does work, and 2) it's on
afsg.apple.com, not wuarchive.
