Let's remember the purpose of the TI/99, TRS80 CoCo, etc.: To get a lot of people started with easy-to-learn BASIC, lots of hand-holding, etc. When we become concerned about the speed of execution, then we are ready to "graduate" to a compiler (BASIC compilers are available for some) or to learning and working in assembly language. So maybe slow is GOOD! Ted Hildebrandt (twhgbo)

In defense of the TRS-80 COCO, I wouldn't call it slow. The BASIC is comparable in speed to the IBM-PC implementation (note the extended BASIC graphics primitives are similar, too.) Perhaps this is one reason why it's considered such a good deal for the money. And when I get OS-9 and a C compiler... /Steve Dyer
