The discussion on ethics has been fascinating; thanks especially to David Friedman and Michael Ellis for making their views clear. I must admit, however, that I still see no objective basis for ethics. I would *like* to be able to recognize such an objective basis, as it would then allow me to be arrogantly certain about my moral pronouncements :-). Perhaps an analysis of some moral situations would illustrate our arguments better. For example, any of 1. Is taking land via "eminent domain" immoral? 2. Are taxes immoral? 3. Is violence of any kind immoral? 4. Is it immoral to kidnap children? 5. Is it immoral to beat and torture dogs for no reason? 6. Is polygamy immoral?
