[comp.parallel] Looking for introductory texts on parallel/distributed computing

I have no experience with implementing or using programs with parallel
or distributed processing, but I would like to learn about the
subject.  I am working on several programs that I believe could be
greatly optimized through parallelism.  Suggestions for an
introductory text?  I have a large Unix network to work with.  Thanks
for any pointers.
