There is a lot of work on parallel computers, parallel computation and
parallel algorithms going on at NYU. For starters we have the Ultracomputer
Research Project which is a shared memory MIMD architecture.

We have several running prototypes and are in the process of designing some
larger ones. There are a number of papers available describing the ideas
behind our architecture and some new papers soon to be appearing describing
our operating systems work.

We have a group of people looking at numerical applications for machines of
our type. Although we are a general purpose arch. our user community is
largely numerical and so there is alot of interest in that.

The department has very active vision and robotics groups and there is in
general alot of interest in parallelism. If your friend gets in touch
with the department I think they have an idea of what all the various
groups and researchers and faculty members are doing.
