[comp.parallel] AllIANT SuperComputer

madhu@hubcap.UUCP (Raman Madhusudan) (11/08/88)

Greetings:
No Comp.sys.alliant or whatever exists. My sincere apologies
at the outset for probably posting this article to all the wrong groups.
Does anyone out there use an "ALLIANT" computer belonging to the FX series.
(?)
These (mini- SUPER)computers supposedly runsomething called concentrix which
is a "full native port of the Berkeley Unix ..".
Q2: How portable are programs written in FX/FORTRAN or FX/C to other machines?
The FX/40 (with 4 vector processors) is supposed to offer 94.4 MFLOPS and over
14Mwhetstones per processor .
Q3: Has anyone out there actually have this thing banchmarked independently ?
If you are using this series of machines or know someone who does, Could
you please e-mail me some info. ? (Please)
Q4: How buggy is this concentrix (0. Not bad 1. Something like 4.0 from SUN
2. Real Bad 3. Dont' touch it ) ?
Q5: How good is Alliant's System Support (0. Bad 1. OK 2.Good 3. As good as
SUN's 4. I love them )
Q6: How fast is their FORTRAN when compared to straightforward execution on
VAX8650's onwards (8810's etc) running a. VMS b. ULTRIX and on other
Workstations/SuperMinis ?
