"Strategies for Building Large Systems"

Software systems become large by evolution, and building them is
enormously labor-intensive, because of the need to integrate and
refine at the same time new features are being added. Perlis
will show how to automate much of the construction of operating
systems and large programs, even on systems with chunky
parallelism.
Alan Perlis was educated at the Carnegie Institute and MIT, where
he worked on project Whirlwind. He has helped form computer
science departments at Purdue, Carnegie-Mellon, and Yale. Perlis
played a key role in the development of Algol, and is a member of
the National Academy of Engineering.
