Our group at Ohio State University is conducting research into many areas of parallel processing and multiprocessor computer architecture; parallel algorithm development, parallel programming languages, different architectures, etc. I am curious, having lost touch with industry, how deep commercially available systems (e.g. Intel Hypercube, BBN Butterfly, etc. (I hope I haven't offended anyone by not including them in this short example list but if I made the list as long as it should be and then missed one the offense would be even greater)) have penetrated the market. Is there an article somewhere which describes how well these systems have been selling? How many are out there? Are they only research tools? What tasks are they performing? I know this query sounds naive, but being at a University, in a research environment, I have tended to focus only on articles dealing with research oriented applications and locations. Any references or direct replies will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, brian (brian@kaa.eng.ohio-state.edu)
