In apropos of the interest in distributed simulation recently
shown in this group, the following papers may be of interest.

1. Madisetti, V., Walrand, J. and D. Messerschmitt, "On
Estimating the Progress of Optimistic Distributed Computation-
Two Processor Case". ERL Preprint, UC Berkeley. March 15, 1989

2. ___________________, "On Estimating the Progress of Optimisitic
Distributed Computation: Multiple Processor Case", ERL Preprint,
UC Berkeley, May 4, 1989.

In these papers a model for the analysis of optimistic distributed
computation on a number of asynchronous processors is developed.
Analysis to derive estiamtes of the progress of distributed
computation is presented for two different synchronization
strategies. Our results may offer some more insight into
how optimistic synchronization works in a general framework
of asynchronous computation.
These papers do not compare optimistic with conservative
mechanism, which is quite application dependent. Some issues
are discussed in
3. ______________"Effcient Distributed Simulation", Proc.
of Annual Simulation Symposium, March 1989, Tampa, IEEE
Computer Society Press, 1989.
