Yes, this is true.  The Connection Machine Network Server is a
DARPA-sponsored project which gives away CM use to network users.  To
apply for a free CMNS account, e-mail to cmns-manager@think.com.  To
use the account, you need to be able to telnet or rlogin to
cmns.think.com or cmns-sun.think.com.

The CMNS hardware currently includes both VAX and Sun-4 front ends, a
CM-2 (sorry, don't recall the size), and a DataVault.  Much of the
necessary documentation is on-line, but you'll probably want to order
a hard-copy set.
