[comp.parallel] Advise on Transputer systems

ariel%bimacs.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (Ariel J. Frank) (09/01/89)

Hi transputer land.

I need your advise. I want to learn from your experiences.

Since there is not much traffic lately, let me ask (again) the usual type
of question. Assume you had $40,000-$50,000 for a concurrent computer.
Assume also you decided to go on transputers. Your general needs are:

1) Use of lets say a 16 transputer system for concurrent programming, OS
development, simulation of parallel systems, and maybe some AI.

2) You want to usually work with C, but also directly with OCCAM (for
   course instruction maybe).

3) You prefer a nice, high-level development environment.

So, what are your recommendations, products, ideas, advice, etc... Names,
setups, prices are also very welcome. I know about the SUN/TOPOLOGIX
combination. Any experiences with this?

By the way, are transputer catching on or are they (maybe) on the decline?
Any other realistic proposals for another concurrent system?

Please answer by E-mail. I will summerize if enough interest.
