DMCC5 Call For Participation ============================ The Fifth Distributed Memory Computing Conference (DMCC5) is a continuation of the highly successful Hypercube Concurrent Computers and Applications (HCCA) conference series. DMCC5 will preserve the spirit of the preceding HCCA conferences, providing a forum in which researchers in the field of distributed memory computing from government, academia, and industry can present results, and exchange ideas and information. Although the conference series will continue to play an important role in the development and use of large grain-size, distributed memory, MIMD concurrent computers, DMCC5 will also explicitly include SIMD machines, thereby covering the whole class of distributed memory computers. For further information about registration and participation please contact: Ms. Jane W. Squires, DMCC5 Administrator, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. Phone: (803) 777-7660 LOCATION: Charleston, South Carolina DATE: April 9-12, 1990 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Topics of Interest ================== DMCC5 will cover all topics of interest in the field of distributed memory computing. Topics include, but are not limited to, the following; Architectures Load Balancing Artificial Intelligence Matrix Algorithms Compilers Neural Networks Concurrent Languages Non-numerical Algorithms Fault Tolerance Operating Systems Image Processing Programming Environments Large-scale Applications Vision --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contributed Papers ================== Authors are invited to submit contributed papers covering any aspect of hardware, software (both systems and tools), applications, programming environments, algorithms, or parallelization tools for distributed memory concurrent computers. Contributed papers must describe original and previously unpublished work, and make a significant contribution to the understanding of the design and/or use of distributed memory concurrent computers. All contributed papers presented at the conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings. Instructions ============ (1) Submit 3 copies of an extended abstract of approximately 4 pages. Abstracts should include a succinct statement of the problems that are considered in the paper, the main results achieved, an explanation of the significance of the work, and a comparison with past research. To ensure a high academic standard the abstracts of all contributed papers submitted will be refereed. (2) Submit 2 copies of a short abstract of no more than 1 page. If the paper is accepted this abstract will appear in the Book of Abstracts that will be distributed at the conference. Please use a 10 point Computer Modern Roman font, and leave a margin of at least one inch to the left and right of the text. (3) In the case of multiple authors indicate who will make the presentation. Include the complete mailing address (and email address) of the author to be notified. (4) Papers authored solely by students will be eligible for student prizes, and should be labeled as a student paper. (5) Abstracts should be sent to: Drs. David Walker and Quentin Stout, DMCC5 Abstracts, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. __________________________________________________________________________ Posters ======= Poster presentations are intended to provide a more informal forum in which to present work-in-progress, updates to previously published work, and contributions not suited for oral presentation. Posters sessions have played an important role in the success of previous HCCA conferences, and are regarded as of equal importance to contributed sessions. All accepted posters will appear in the Conference Proceedings. Instructions ============ (1) Submit 4 copies of a short abstract of no more than 1 page. If the paper is accepted this abstract will appear in the Book of Abstracts that will be distributed at the conference. Please use a 10 point Computer Modern Roman font, and leave a margin of at least one inch to the left and right of the text. (2) Abstracts should be sent to: Drs. David Walker and Quentin Stout, DMCC5 Abstracts, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deadlines ========= The deadline for submission of abstracts for contributed papers and poster presentations is November 15, 1989. Contributors will be notified of acceptance by January 10, 1990. Final papers in camera-ready form are to be handed in at the conference. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reasearch Exhibits ================== Some space will be available for exhibiting non-commercial products of relevance to distributed memory computing. Researchers wishing to exhibit their work must provide 2 copies of a short abstract conforming to the specifications given above for poster presentations. In addition, a description of the equipment to be used must also be provided. The abstracts and description of equipment should be sent before November 15 to: Ms. Jane W. Squires, DMCC5 Administrator, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Student Awards ============== Student participation in DMCC5 will be encouraged by reduced registration and accommodation rates, and by a student paper competition. An award of $500 will be made for the best paper in each of the following three categories: applications, systems software, and hardware. For a paper to be eligible for the Student Paper Competition it must be authored solely by students, and be accepted as a contributed paper. To be entered in the competition the paper should be submitted as a contributed paper as described above, and the extended abstract should be labeled "Student Paper". Prizes will be awarded at the Conference Banquet. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tutorials ========= Pre-conference tutorials will be held on Sunday, April 8. Those interested in conducting a half-day tutorial should submit a proposal before August 15, 1989. Notification of acceptance will be given before September 15, 1989. The proposal must include a description of the intended audience, an abstract, a course outline, recommended reading, and special equipment required. Proposals should be sent to: Dr. George Johnson, DMCC5 Tutorials, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mini-Symposia ============= Some time will be reserved for mini-symposia on topics of particular interest. Those interested in organizing a mini-symposium should submit a proposal before August 15, 1989. Notification of acceptance will be given before September 15, 1989. The proposal must include a description of the intended audience, an abstract, and the length of the mini-symposium. Mini-symposia held in the morning will occupy two session slots, each of 75 minutes. Afternoon mini-symposia will occupy a single session slot of 100 minutes. Proposals for mini-symposia should be sent to Ms. Jane W. Squires, DMCC5 Administrator, at the address given previously. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Evening Meetings ================ Rooms will be available at the conference center for birds-of-a-feather meetings, users group meetings, vendor presentations, and similar evening events. Those wishing to organize an evening meeting should contact Ms. Jane W. Squires at the address given previously. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vendor Exhibits =============== Facilities will be available within the conference center for vendors to exhibit products related to distributed memory computing. Floor space will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Vendors interested in exhibiting their products should contact Ms. Jane W. Squires as soon as possible at the address given previously. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Publishing Exhibits =================== The number of books, journals, and magazines on distributed memory computing, and supercomputing in general, continues to grow. Publishers of such material are invited to contact Ms. Jane W. Squires if they wish to reserve space for an exhibit booth. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Employment Opportunity Exhibit ============================== An Employment Opportunity Exhibition will provide a forum in which students and professionals can become acquainted with the research interests and employment needs of participating organizations, and interact with company representatives on an informal basis. Employers interested in participating in the Employment Opportunity Exhibition should contact Ms. Jane W. Squires. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
