Recently, the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency in Arlington
Virginia (DARPA) announced three new Broad Agency Announcements for research
that they will fund in massively parallel computing and high performance
computing of interest to the DoD community. These BAA provide a method
for issuing contracts to universities and other research organizations
(and in some cases industry or universities teamed with industry)
without the normal procurement delays or problems common to RFP's.

BAA #90-01 Advanced Computing Systems: Architectures and Microsystems
for high performance computing. Abstract due Nov 15th with proposals
due by Jan 18, 1990. Protype development for demonstrating advances
in scalable parallel systems leading to teraops performance, software
and application support, mass storage systems, networking, etc.

BAA #90-02 Advanced Computing Systems: Networking, Command, Control
and Communications. Abstract due Nov 30th and proposals due Jan 31st.
Focus of this BAA is research on based on giga-bit and tera-bit per
second networking along with C3 display and workstation technology
for wargaming and battlefield simulation.

BAA #90-03 Advanced Computing Systems: Software Technology. Abstract
due Dec 14th and proposals Feb 15th. Focus is on advanced languages
and tools for parallel systems, module interconnection and interface
definition formalisms, persistent object management and typing, `
operating systems and tools for distributed, parallel and real-time
systems; especially with limited or unreliable communications,
visulization of and interaction with complex objects, etc.

For copies of these BAA documents, call the DARPA Info Science &
Technology Office on (202) 695-1766 and request copies. Points
of contact along with email address of the technical staff are
listed. Suggest interested research organizations respond with
an abstract before submission of a proposal for review and comment
by DARPA.
