[comp.parallel] Request for Applications

rpl@grad21.cs.duke.edu (Richard P. LaRowe) (11/14/89)

I am a Ph.D. candidate at Duke University investigating virtual memory
management policies for NUMA multiprocessors (part of the NUMAtic project).

The experimental approach we've been using consists of a simulation phase,
which we use to narrow the set of reasonable policy alternatives, followed
by an implementation phase, which we use to validate our simulation results.
Currently I'm in an implementation phase, modifying a version of BBN's
Mach-1000 kernel to use some of our ideas.

In order to evaluate my kernel modifications, I need a workload. This
posting is to solicit applications that I can use for that purpose. Ideally,
I'd like parallel Mach-1000 programs. On the other hand, I can probably
use any Mach or Unix program written for shared memory multiprocessors
(UMA or NUMA) if the parallel constructs used would be straightforward to
port to the Butterfly (I'm not interested in porting large user libraries).
Since I'm studying virtual memory management, it should not be surprising
that I'm most interested in applications that actually use shared memory.
I'm also hoping to acquire some applications with LARGE memory requirements.

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone with applications that fit
my needs, or pointers to someone who does.

Thanks in advance,

Rick LaRowe
