JOB OPPORTUNITIES AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH

The Division of Computer Research and Technology, National
Institutes of Health is recruiting for two positions to be
filled by talented Electronics Engineers, Computer
Engineers, or Computer Scientists. NIH, a federal
government agency and world-renowned biomedical research
institution, offers exciting career opportunities with
distinctive advantages: an outstanding working environment
with excellent facilities and resources, the opportunity to
work in an institution where the fight to defeat disease and
improve man's health is paramount, and the opportunity to
remain at the forefront of computer technology.

            UNIX Systems Administration and Programming

This position is for system administration and software
            engineering assignments involving the development,
implementation, and deployment of Advanced Laboratory
Workstations. The successful candidate will install,
configure, test, and deploy systems software on a variety of
powerful 32-bit UNIX workstations used in laboratory and
scientific computing. Future opportunity exists to develop,
evaluate, modify, and port software for application areas
such as interactive graphics, network communications,
distributed filesystems, molecular modelling, and desktop
publishing. This position requires experience with UNIX.
Experience with networks, C/C++ programming language, or X
            Window System is desirable.

            Scientific Programming for Parallel Computers

An opportunity to work in the exciting field of parallel
processing and develop scientific applications for the new
NIH Highly Parallel Computer System. Working from a UNIX
workstation that is connected to the parallel machine
through a network, the successful candidate will develop
these applications using the C and FORTRAN programming
languages as well as parallel programming tools. Initial
assignments will include the development of parallel
algorithms for computational chemistry calculations that are
            used by NIH biomedical scientists.

These positions require a BS degree in Computer Engineering,
Electronic Engineering, or Computer Science. Salary range
is from Federal grades GS-7 through GS-12, depending on
education and experience. U.S. citizenship is required.
For further information regarding qualifications, call Kevin
Murphy at (301) 496-6951. Interested candidates may submit
            an SF-171 or resume to:

                 Mr. Kevin Murphy
                 NIH/DCRT
                 Bldg. 12A, Rm. 3013
                 9000 Rockville Pike
                 Bethesda, MD 20892

If you'd like to send your resume by e-mail then send it
directly to Keith Gorlen (keith@alw.nih.gov or uunet!nih-
csl!keith) for the UNIX Systems Administration and
Programming position, or Bob Martino (martino@alw.nih.gov or
            uunet!nih-csl!alw!martino) for the Scientific Programming
for Parallel Computers position. Questions about the job
(as opposed to qualifications) should also come to us. To
forestall some questions, here's some info. Unless you have
an M.S., you'll need to be in the upper 25% of your class or
have a B average. Examples of some entry level salaries:

                 BSEE or BSCS - $25343
                 MSCS - $27290
                 MSEE - $30396

As you can see, people don't come here because of the high
starting salaries. But it's a great place to work: the work
and the use its put to are rewarding, and we can offer you
            good career and training opportunities.
