Can anyone tell me why the T.V. series "Lou Grant" was cancelled for the Fall `82 season on CBS. I have not paid much atention to the local TV news gossip in recent weeks and have concluded that the cancellation must be political in nature. Thanks A. DeSimone wheps|eps/jere P.S. I posted to group because I was not sure which category this item would fall under.

The show "Lou Grant" is to be cancelled next season. Besides "Lou Grant" "Barney Miller", "Taxi" are also scehduled to hit the scrap heap. At the end of next year(May '83), M*A*S*H will be ending with a 2 hour "end of the war"special" The only one of these shows' fates that I'm suprised about is "Taxi". The plotswere getting used on "Lou Grant" and "Barney Miller". I would assume Alan Alda is getting bored of the Korean war after 9 (or 10) seasons.

Yes, "Lou Grant" is being cancelled for "political" reasons. It seems that Ed Asner (oh I wanted to misspell his name) has made himself unpopular with a number of his peers with his stance on El Salvador. Other actor-people will not work with him, and certain of the technical unions are making trouble as well. "Lou Grant" was cancelled for political expediency.
