[comp.parallel] A CD command and PWD command for the CM file-system

curtiss@mimsy.umd.edu (Phil Curtiss) (12/16/89)

Currently, TMC does not offer a command for the CM file system that
provides the same function that cd does for the Unix file system. This is
predominately because of problems centered around the fact that, in unix, a
child process can not change its parents environment. In spite of this
fact, however, we can use the aliasing features of csh and its derivatives
as well as a C program to actually do the file specification parsing to come
up with the command cmcd which provides the same function for the CM file
system that cd does for the Unix file system.

For those that use the CM and a CM file system, you may use
anonymous ftp to get the cmcd package from grinch.umiacs.umd.edu
(128.8.121.1). It is in pub/cm/cmcd.shar. It is a shar file (big
surprise ;-) so it will need to be unshared.

If you have any problems or questions please send mail to
curtiss@umiacs.umd.edu.

Enjoy and Tah.
