Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) announced on Jan 22, 1990 that MasPar Computer Corporation of Sunnyvale, CA has joined their Data Parallel Research Initiative to make the MasPar MP-1 massively parallel SIMD systems available to universities and reseach organizations at substantial discount. The MasPar MP-1 system uses the DEC 3520 VAXstation as a tightly integrated host UNIX system for their parallel processor arrays configurable from 1,024 processor elements (4 bit ALU width with 64 bit accumulator and floating point assist) to 2K, 4K, 8K or 16K configurations. The entry level MP 1101 system with 1K processors and a list price of $170,000 is available to DPRI approved participants for $94,350, with similar discounts or the larger configurations.
