[net.micro] Literature wanted on machine language for Apple

I'd like to know a bit more about the monitor that the apple has for
direct bit banging in machine language with mnemonic op codes.  I know
nothing about the microprocessor they use.  Is it a 6502?  Can anyone
direct me to a place for easy-reading info on that chip's instruction set?
I have seen nothing in the apple books.
